Rúben Borralho is a nature photographer, timelapse creator and visual storyteller based in Castelo Branco, Portugal.
Ironically, photography entered his life through fear.
As a child, he would cry whenever someone pointed a camera at him. The lens felt intimidating, almost threatening. Years later, that same lens would become the tool through which he observes and interprets the world.
Born in 1970 in Castelo Branco, Portugal, Rúben developed a passion for photography in the late 1980s. In 1988 he bought his first SLR camera, a Praktica, marking the beginning of a journey that started as curiosity and soon grew into a lifelong passion.
Today his work focuses mainly on nature photography, timelapse and video, capturing landscapes, light and the passage of time. Through his images he aims to reveal the beauty of natural environments and the subtle moments that often go unnoticed a ray of sunlight over the horizon, the movement of clouds, or the quiet presence of a landscape.
Over the years Rúben has participated in several collective photography exhibitions, had images published in photography magazines and books, and received distinctions including 1st and 2nd place in the colour category at the Castelo Branco Parish Council Photography Competition in 2005. Internationally, he also received an Honourable Mention in the Microsoft Future Pro Photographer competition in 2008.
With a background in new technologies, Rúben combines technical knowledge with artistic sensibility. His work today includes photography, timelapse, video production and visual content creation, collaborating with photography brands and producing visual stories inspired by nature and landscape.
His goal is simple: to capture moments that will never happen again.
Because photography has a unique power. the power to preserve time.
Making Moments Last Forever.
A Journey Through Photography
2020 – Invited by the artist Cristina Rodrigues and curator Marco Coutinho Longo to document the opening of the exhibition Crossing.
Invited to Document Contemporary Art
In 2020, I was invited by the artist Cristina Rodrigues and curator Marco Coutinho Longo to photograph the opening of the exhibition Crossing at the Contemporary Culture Centre in Castelo Branco, Portugal.
My role was to document not only the exhibition itself, but also its opening event, capturing the interaction between visitors and the artworks, as well as the atmosphere and key moments that defined the occasion.
Following the event, a selection of these photographs was used to promote the exhibition across institutional and cultural platforms, contributing to the visual documentation and public communication of this contemporary art project.

2022 – Featured by the Municipality of Castelo Branco
Featured by the Municipality of Castelo Branco
In 2022, one of my landscape photographs of Castelo Branco was licensed by the Municipality of Castelo Branco and featured in the official promotion of the city at the Bolsa de Turismo de Lisboa (BTL), Portugal’s leading tourism fair.
The image was published across the Municipality’s official social media channels to promote Castelo Branco’s culture, gastronomy and natural heritage, becoming part of its communication campaign for one of the country’s most important tourism events.
Seeing my work represent the city where I was born and continue to live is a privilege and one of the moments I value most in my photographic journey.
